Sheikh Mounir Barakat's Promotion
- Born in 21 November 1936 in Bsharreh – Lebanon
- Father Salim Barakat Rahmeh, Maronite – Christian from Bsharreh
- Married to Albina Trinidad Coello de Rahme
- Father of four children: Josephine Karimeh, Salim Antonio and Antonio Rafael: Lawyers and Marrun Adriana: Graphic Designer.
- One of the first who immigrated from Lebanon to South America in the twenties he arrived in Venezuela on October 12, 1955
- After settlement in El Tigre, he established and developed the two largest furniture factories in El Tigre “Adonis” and “Sleep Comfort” embracing more than 500 employees (carpenters, upholsters and painters …..)
- Overtook in the world of politics in Venezuela. As a result of his unnumbered humanitarian affairs, his lovers brought his eldest son Salim to the Venezuelan Parliament for two rounds. He was the youngest MP.
- His love to his native country in his second country Venezuela was shown when he constructed a residential complex of more than 1000 homes on three hundred thousand square meters and called it Rahmeh. Streets, clubs, school ….of the complex were also called names related to Lebanon such as :Bsharreh, Gibran ….
- Coordinator between the Lebanese community and the Christian Socialist Party
- He was granted by the Venezuelan government various medals and certificates of appreciation.
The Gibran National Committee held its annual scholarship ceremony to honor nineteen outstanding students from different schools of Bsharreh district who have passed baccalaureate II, brevet and technical official exams with top grades for the scholar year 2009- 2010.
The ceremony took place on May 8th, 2012 at Palace Hotel – Bcharreh.

President and members of the GNC, Mps, parents, municipality presidents, social and educative movements, dignitaries, head of schools and universities were in attendance.
In his speech Dr. Chidiac President of the GNC welcomed the guests and stressed that the scholarship was named after Sheikh Mounir Barakat Rahmeh, the self-made man who mastered at his early age the art of overcoming difficulties and the determination and perseverance that led him to fulfill his dreams.
He is as Gibran believes “…who migrate with nothing but courage in their heart and strength in their arms but who return with wealth in their hands and a wreath of glory upon their heads.
They are victorious wherever they go and loved and respected wherever they settle….”
Then he urged the students to emulate and follow Sheikh Mounir Barakat as a role model and a good example.
