Toufic Kayrouz's Promotion
- Born in Bsharreh in 1915.
- He received his elementary, intermediary and secondary classes at the Carmelite Fathers School – Bsharreh. He studied the Electronic Engineering and Cinematic Sciences at the Higher Technical Institute in Roma and was graduated in 1938 with excellent grades.
He established AL-Arz Studio in 1947 to produce numerous Lebanese and Arabian movies. He occupied the position of CEO till 1953.
- He was assigned by the Maronite Patriarchate exclusively for the production and filming of the historical documentary that covered the opening of the grave of Saint Charbel under the supervision of the Patriarchate Commission in April 22, 1950. The aim of the grave opening was to examine St. Charbel’s body, a prelude to declare his beatification by the Vatican. The film was recorded on two original copies only, one copy for the Vatican and the second was reserved for the Maronite Patriarchate.
- He was called by General Fouad Shehab, Commander of the Lebanese Army in the early fifties, to carry the task of establishing and equipping the production and the documentation departments.
- He founded in 1960 the first Filmmakers Syndicate in Lebanon that is consisted of engineers, technicians and technologists working in the multiplexes engineering and sciences. He remained the honorary president of this syndicate for life.
- He was elected as a member of the Gibran National Committee in Bsharreh in 1961.
- He produced the “Broken Wings” movie that is written by Gibran Khalil Gibran in 1963 and won the first prize of the International Cultural Cinema Festival in Roma – Italy in November 24th, 1965.
- In 1964 he was appointed by the Supreme Judicial Council in Lebanon, an expert juror in the electronics, engineering and cinematic sectors.
- In 1967 he designed and implemented the first integrated system in Lebanon and the region that produces professional colorful films of 35 mm, manufactured and assembled in Lebanon. Upon this achievement he received from AGFA International an official acclaim.
- Upon a royal call from His Majesty Late King Hussein of Jordan, he designed and supervised a programme to develop the Royal Jordanian Television. An agreement was signed between the Hashemite Jordanian Kingdom and Troufik Kayrouz as a Consultant from 1969 to 1977.
- He passed away on October 21st, 1988.
The Gibran National Committee held its annual scholarship ceremony to honor outstanding students from different schools of Bsharreh district who have passed baccalaureate II, brevet and technical official exams with top grades for the scholar year 2010- 2011.
The award ceremony took place on May 20th, 2012 at Chbat Hotel – Bcharreh.

The Scholarship is to honor outstanding Students from different schools of Bsharreh district who have passed Baccalaureate II, brevet and technical official exams with top grades for the scholar year 2010- 2011. Nineteen students were awarded in the presence of the GNC President and members, members of parliament, parents, municipality presidents, social and educative movements, dignitaries, head of schools and universities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Chidiac President of the GNC stressed that the knowledge is the key pillar for the development and advancement of societies, praising the students for their efforts and calling on them to keep getting excellence and best of achievements, referring to the late Toufic Kayrouz as a perfect exemplar.
He added Engineer Toufik Kayrouz is the Pride of Lebanon. He spent his life forging his own path through hard work, professionalism, researches and innovations. His name exceeded Lebanon to reach Italy where he received in 1967 from AGFA International an official acclaim for designing and implementing the first integrated system in Lebanon and the region that produces professional colorful films of 35 mm. He founded in 1960 the first Filmmakers Syndicate in Lebanon and occupied high positions…….
Yet, in the footsteps of Toufik Kayrouz, Dr. Chidiac urged the students to comprehend the importance of studying and working hard with determination, wisdom, ethics, and loyalty wishing them more successes in the future.
At the end of the speech, a short movie about the life and achievements of engineer Toufic Tarif Kayrouz was displayed followed by financial incentives distribution for each student and a cocktail.
